Hammondsport, New York, a small town with a character

The state of New York is filled with ultra-modern cities as well as small towns like Hammondsport where you can get away from it all.

Voted as one of the smallest cool towns in America 2012 by Budget Travel Magazine, the town of Hammondsport is where you must be headed if you want to spend a relaxing vacation in a place that does not feel “touristy” at all. The home to about 650 inhabitants, the town exudes a very friendly vibe to it even if it has a number of attractions that must be visited. It has as eight stone buildings listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The town covers a total area of 1.0 square kilometers and is located at the south end of Keuka Lake, in the Finger Lakes region in Central New York. The town is also known as the Cradle of Aviation because it was the home to Glenn H. Curtiss, the first person to introduce the world of aviation to the public by flying his "JuneBug" over Keuka Lake in 1908. Hammondsport is 55 miles to Rochester, 91 miles to Buffalo, and 133 miles to Oshawa, Canada.

There is something special about Hammondsport that will charm you. It might not be packed with attractions compared to the big cities of New York, but it has its own share of attractions that will keep you entertained throughout your stay. You can take a refreshing dip in one of its public beaches on Keuka Lake; sample some wine at the Pleasant Valley Wine Company, the first bonded vintner in the country established in 1860, and where you will also learn more about the intricacies of wine production; explore and visit the other wineries and vineyards such as the Dr. Konstantin Frank's Vinifera Wine Cellars, Heron Hill Winery, Bully Hill Vineyards Winery, Lime Berry Winery, Keuka Lake Vineyards, and the Domaine Leseurre Winery. The town is not all about wine, beer lovers will enjoy The Brewery of Broken Dreams, Finger Lakes Beer Company, and the Keuka Brewing Company. Your visit will not be complete if you do not check out the Glenn H. Curtiss Museum, Finger Lakes Boating Museum, and the Opera House Antiques where you can buy interesting items to bring home.
